Ely St Mary's Challenge Updates

The weather wasn’t too bad, and most children managed to come to school either on foot or by bike this week. I am not convinced that all the children got their families recycling paper.
This week:
Ask your parents if they could try turning down the heating by 1 degree. It won’t really be noticed, but will make a big difference to fuel bills and the carbon footprint of your house.
This proved to be an entertaining challenge because it got children talking with their parents about saving energy by investing in new light bulb technology.
There was an audible gasp in our whole-school Collective Worship when it was announced that we weren’t going to bathe for a week. However, some relief was also sensed when the full challenge was revealed to all!
This week:

Week One- Gold
Lent kicked off to a good start with pancake races including staff from all twelve classes, racing with robust pancakes made especially by our cook. The winning staff members were Miss McArthur, Mr. Wilberforce and Mr. Pemberton. Congratulations to them! Mr. Hickish took part and ran beautifully but doesn’t appear to have won any prizes, which is a huge disappointment to him!
We have chosen not only to take the Bishops’ Challenge by following the St. Mary’s Church challenge of “The Carbon Fast”. Here is the challenge from Week One which was set for the whole school:
