Burrough Green Challenge Updates
Week 6 - Gold
We celebrated Easter with a beautiful service. The school children and staff walked from the school across the village green to the church (Where parents and govenors waited for us), led by Class 1 waving palm leaves and shouting 'Hurray for Jesus'. The older children read from the bible as the younger children created a display to illustrate the readings including a loaf, a crown of thorns and a cross. To illustrate Christ's resurection children from each class attached a tissue paper flower to the wooden cross until it was a brightly coloured symbol of new life. We had learnt a vibrant hymn called Easter Celebration which was sung with great enthusiasm and lots of foot tapping and clapping. Reverend Pauline Reid talked to us about the events of Easter and she blessed us all. We were very pleased to have Mr Simpson, our Bishop's Visitor with us too.
Week 5 - Gold
We had a very busy week preparing for a special day this week. On Friday Class 2 shared their work with us by presenting a super assembly in which they showed us the things they had learnt about the Arctic, India and Australia. They entertained us with a song a story and a dance. They helped us to think about all the wonderful things which are waiting for us to see one day if we are lucky enough to travel to other countries. Then in the afternoon we joined with our local community to take part in the Sport Relief Mile. Young and old, ran, walked and hobbled together. We were warmed up by our super dancing group. The sun shone and everyone managed to run four times around the field. The PTA provided drinks and lovely sticky cakes for us at the finish line. We had a very enjoyable afternoon and hopefully we have raised some money to help other people too

Week Four - Silver
This week our worship was led by three willing volunteers from Class4. Following the theme of families and remembering that Sunday is Mothering Sunday, the boys chose to base their worship around the story of Jesus as a young boy becoming separated from his parents as he stayed to speak with the people in the temple. They helped us to think about how mauch our parents, and especially our mums! worry about us, but only because they love us. The boys had prepared a powerpoint presentation which asked us to identify the mums of some famous people, including Prince Harry, Lisa Simpson and Tracey Beaker. They prepared their own gathering and sending which we will continue to use during the year. Our worship leaders spent several lunchtimes and any spare moments in class writing a prayer, directing a small group of children to mime to their bible reading. The children all made Mother's day cards which they are looking forward to giving to their mum's on Sunday. Our sunflower seeds we planted last week are growing well.

Week Three - Silver
This week we worked together to plant sunflower seeds. The older children from our school council helped the younger children to plant their seeds. The older children planted their own seed. We are having a competition to see which year group can grow the strongest sunflower. The children are watching over their seeds and even planning who will look after them during the Easter break. We have also been having lots of dicussions about our outdoor environment now that our lovely new school build is finished. Govenors, teachers and children are contributing to this discussion and we are all keen to make the most of the beautiful place which is Burrough Green. During our worship this week we thanked God for the trees around us, the animals and the beautiful spring flowers which are just emerging.

Week Two - Silver
This week the whole school joined together to enjoy being a community. The older children spent time with the younger children sharing their favourite story books. The older children enjoyed spending time with the younger ones. And the younger children thought it was very special having the undivided attention of our bigger children. This was an activity we used to do regularly and gathering together like this again has reminded us how much we enjoy being together as a whole community and I think it will be something we reintroduce to our termly plans.

Week One - Silver
We began our Lent Challenge with a lovely worship, led by our Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Beavers and Rainbows and their leaders. It was a celebration of Thinking Day and really helped us to focus on people just like us spreading God's love around the world. The
children lit a candle for other children around the world and placed the candles on a map. We sang the song we performed for Bishop David when he opened our new school last term; As One. We felt very proud of our 51 children who belong to the Guide and Scout movement and do so many good things as part of our local community. They all looked very smart in their uniforms.
