Barnabas Oley Challenge Updates
Week 6 - Gold
We have been thinking carefully about the Easter story and enjoyed a visit from GenR8 and Actios to help us think about this special time further. Each class is planning and making Easter gardens for our Special Easter assembly on Friday. Following our collective worship on Monday, some children even made Easter gardens in the playground! We feel that we have achieved Gold as the whole school has taken part in these activities and will be sharing their thoughts in Friday's Special Assembly.

Week Five -Gold
Remembering our friends around the world. We had a Collective worship with up-dates from the school in Kisumu, Kenya, that we are partnered with. We are awaiting letters that they are writing to us. Each day this week in Collective worship each class will be reading prayers they have written about the countries they have been studying and about world events that need our prayers. Each class is involved in prayer writing as well as research about countries
Week Four - Gold
Remember our families. We had a real focus on events to celebrate our MothersEvery child in school made a Mother's Day card. The PTA ran a Mother's Day shop so tha each child could buy a special gift for their mums. We held two Mother's Day Lunches (attended by 80+ mums) and table decorations were handmade by the children. Finally each class took part in a special Mother's Day Service at St.Bartholomew's Church
Week Three- Gold

Remembering our environment; each class is planting seeds in their classroom which will be planted outside when the warmer weather arrives. These plants will be used in our school grounds especially in our new raised gardens being built over the Easter holidays- one garden for each class. In addition some Year 6 children have volunteered to begin weeding and tidying up the shared gardens. We even had reception children volunteering to do a playground litter pick. Fantastic.
Week Two- Gold
For week two we had a whole school assembly on being good neighbours and friends. All the children tried hard to be good friends and to make new friends by sitting next to somebody different at lunchtime. Each class has put together a class assembly which has been shared with friends ,parents and neighbours of the school. Lots of visitors have commented on the lovely assemblies. We feel that we achieved Gold as everyone in school has taken part and the assemblies have taken a lot of planning.
Week One - Gold
As a whole school we have devised and contributed to a display to share with our friends and visitors all about Lent. We had a whole school assembly to introduce the six week challenge and individual children (and teachers) have chosen something to give up over the Lent period. Our French club found out about Mardi Gras and tasted foods traditionally eaten at this time. reception children learnt a special pancake song too.
