Alconbury Challenge Updates
Week Six - Gold
Our Easter celebrations began with a whole school assembly taken by GenR8 on the Easter theme. On Thursday, 29th March, Alconbury CofE School held their Easter Service in the Curch of St. Peter and St. Paul. Every class in the school took part in the service. Each class told a part of the Easter Story: Elm - the entry into Jerusalem Sycamore - in the Temple Willow - the Last supper Oak - the Garden of Gethsemane Beech - the Trial Yew - the crucifixion Cedar - Easter morning. Boxes depicting each part of the Easter Story were placed on top of each other and at the end formed the shape of a cross. All the children had been invited to design and make a cross and these were put on display in the hall and parents were invited back to School after the service to view the exhibition of crosses.


Week Five - Bronze
Reception and Year 6 children answered the register in different languages including french and german. Also the year 3/4 children learnt a new song for Sing Up called Hello. This song is all about saying hello in other languages.
Week Four - Gold
Again another busy week for Alconbury School. The week started off with a whole school assembly with the Methodist minister, Rev. Katy, whose assembly theme was mothers. Another KS2 assembly was held on Wednesday, by Mrs. Lester, whose theme was Mothering Sunday. All classes in the school participated in a big write session where the children were asked to write a letter to their mum (photo below of Year 1 class doing their big write session). KS1 classes also made Mother Day Cards. (Photo of 3 reception class children with their cards attached). Finally, FACES, held a Mothering Day event (Photo below of children selling presents). Children were asked to bring £2 into school, they were given a bag with their name on and then were able to purchase a surprise present to be given to their mum on Mothering Sunday.

Week Three - Gold
Alconbury School have had a busy week. All children from Year 1 to Year 6 recently took part in a whole school Learning Log homework activity. Children were asked to design a plan for a piece of wasteland adjacent to our school. Owners Luminus, have given us permission to use and develop it. This week all the children, during a Big Write session, were asked to write a letter asking for donations from local businesses for our eco-garden. Also, all children in school, either this week or next will be planting different types of seed. Some will be started indoors and will be transplanted when big enough. Others are being planted directly into a raised bed and large troughs. The children will have planted vegetable, flower and fruit seeds. Finally, all the school learnt a new song: Think of a world without any flowers.

Week Two - Gold
Every class in the school completed a prayer walk around the school grounds. Cards had been placed around the field on which different groups in the community had been identified e.g. doctors, youth clubs, etc. As the classes walked around the field, they said a short prayer asking God to help and support the groups identified.

Week One - Gold
The week began with a whole school assembly introducing Lent. This assembl
y was taken by the local minister Rev Mary Jepp. All classes delivered a lesson on Lent and the children prepared a Lenten Calendar. We have also put up a Lenten Calandar in the hall, which will be referred to at the beginning of assemblies. The whole school have also learnt the following songs: Jesus put the song into our hearts, Jesus's love is very wonderful and Jubilate.
