Abbots Ripton Challenge Updates
Week Five - Gold
This week we are revisiting the story of the good Samaritan during collective worship and working out how we can emulate this.
The whole school is looking at how we can support a charity in Nepal. We have volunteers from the University of the third age help out in school. One is going at Easter to Nepal where she supports “Help to Educate” which is a very small charity which 'rescues' child labourers from extremely deprived and often dangerous conditions and provides them with a safe home and an education. At the moment there are about 16 girls living at "The Little Gems" hostel. The charity chooses girls as opposed to boys as families living in these dire conditions are likely to send their sons to school in preference to daughters. Also it is the girls who will be responsible for raising families in the future. It is hoped that the next generation will benefit as much as the girls themselves.
We are sending photos and letters to the girls and are holding a cake sale after our parent assembly on Friday to raise money to send for pencils and stationery.
Week Four - Silver
We thought about mothers in collective worship this week. We looked at what they do and how we feel about them. We created a poem together which summarises our thoughts.
This poem was then put together and sent out to all our mothers on Friday.
M is for my Mum who cares for me
O is our Mums love us just the way we are
T is thank you for your love to me
H is Mum helps and understands me
E is everyone needs one
R is relationship with our Mums
Week One - Gold
During Collective Worship we discussed how we can celebrate Lent and this year we are all taking on positive actions each day. We have all worked together to work out an action for every day during Lent and we have displayed these lists all over school.
The whole school enjoyed making and eating pancakes!
