James Bradfield Challenge Updates

Here are some photos of our FunSeekers Easter Holiday Club held in Stoke Ferry Community Center.
As you can see the 'Jenga' had other uses. The theme for this year was The Last Supper and What Happened Next (after the Resurrection). As all the children attend James Bradfield this theme is continuing right through until Pentecost in Collective Worship.   In the picture the children are making a collage of The Last Supper and the walk was to All Saints Church Wretton(the weather was kind to us) where we had a massive  Easter Egg Hunt in the church - 53 cream eggs!

Week Six - Gold

* We held a Special Palm service on Wednesday complete with the minister dressing up as some one who saw Jesus entering Jerusalem.  Palms(Pampas Grass really from a Nan's garden) were waved around and we think our Caretaker will not be pleased with the mess.

* We heard about Maundy Thursday and how the Queen gives out special coins instead of washing feet. We had a bowl of water and a towel    but no one volunteered to have their feet washed.

* At every Collective Worship this week we have been singing the hymns we shall have at our Church Service on Friday. We have also been doing the actions    with our minister and teachers getting out of breath waiving their arms around when we sing Lord of the Dance, Give me oil in my lamp and Shine Jesus Shine.    When we sing Shalom we sing it quietly because we are going to sing this when we hear about the Crucifixion, but we all get very happy and sing loudly    at the Resurrection when we sing Shine Jesus Shine  - this is our favourite hymn of all.

* Many of us have a part to play on Friday either reading the Bible stories or bringing things to the altar, like the palm crosses and the bowl and water.    We even have the bread and wine to take to the altar to remember the Last Supper. The person who will carry the crown of thorns has to carry it on a cushion     because the thorns are so sharp - poor Jesus.

Week Five - Gold

* ONE OF THE PUPILS' NOTICE BOARDS HAS HAD LENT AROUND THE WORLD DEPICTED OVER THE WEEK.

* THE WORSHIP DISPLAY WAS OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN, SHOWING HOW WE SHOULD CARE FOR ALL PEOPLES, NO MATTER    WHERE THEY COME FROM OR WHAT THEY LOOK  LIKE.

* WE HAVE STARTED TO MAKE CONTACT WITH CHILDREN FROM SCHOOLS ACROSS THE GLOBE AND HOPE TO BUILD STRONG     RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEM.

* WE HAVE ALL BEEN PLANNING NEXT WEEKS CHURCH SERVICE DUE TO TAKE PLACE NEXT FRIDAY.

Week Four - Gold

* TO CELEBRATE MOTHERING SUNDAY THE PUPILS CONTINUED WITH THEIR PLANTING OF BULBS AROUND THE SCHOOL BY     PLANTING A CROSS DESIGN ON THE FRONT GRASS. THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE PEOPLE WHO WALK FROM THE WAR MEMORIAL     TO THE METHODIST CHAPEL, WHICH IS LOCATED INSIDE OUR SCHOOL, PLANT THE 3 CROSSES AT THE END OF THEIR GOOD FRIDAY     WITNESS WALK. ANGLICAN AND METHODISTS MEET EVERY GOOD FRIDAY TO DO THIS AND WE ARE VERY PROUD THAT THE BIG     CROSSES ARE PUT IN OUR GROUNDS. THIS IS OUR WAY OF ALSO REMEMBERING JESUS. * TO GET READY FOR GOOD FRIDAY OTHER PUPILS CARRIED OUT A LITTER PICK AROUND THE SCHOOL GROUNDS TO MAKE OUR SCHOOL LOOK    CLEAN AND TIDY.  * WE PUT A NOTICE IN OUR WEEKLY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER THAT GOES OUT TO PARENTS, TELLING THEM ABOUT THE LOCAL CHURCH SERVICE    FOR MOTHERING SUNDAY. SOME OF US WENT ALONG AND EVERYONE WAS GIVEN PRIMULA PLANTS EITHER FOR THEIR MUMS OR IN MEMORY    OF THEIR MUMS.

Week Three - Gold

* Last week we had our Community Lunch with 4 elderly/lonely villagers invited. Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pud with Syrup Sponge& Custard -yummy. Years 5 & 6 waited at table. 3 pupils sat with our guests. Our School cooks excelled themselves as there were no leftovers whatsoever!!! A great success and we are going to continue with Community Lunches throughout the year.

* Two pupils from Ouse Class assisted with the Collective Worship undertaking the Bible Reading and Prayers.

* Reception and Year 1 planted bulbs to help make the school look inviting.

* Displays in the reception area and Hall were all about God's gift of the World and how we must all look after it. We had a collection of items  made form odds and ends and recyclables. The tea cosy was made by our School Secretary from left over bits of wool but some of us thought  it could double as a hat!

* ONE CLASS HAD A DAY WITH NO ELECTRIC TO SHOW WE CAN CUT DOWN ON THE ENERGY WE USE. EVERYONE WAS VERY KEEN TO     HELP, SO, WE DECIDED TO CHANGE OUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK AND HAVE A DAY WHERE THE WHOLE SCHOOL WOULD TRY TO CUT DOWN. MONITORS WENT    AROUND ASKING IF THE LIGHTS,HEATING ETC WERE REALLY NEEDED ( OUR SCHOOL SECRETARY MRS BRYAN EVEN TURNED HER RADIATOR OFF AND PUT ON A     CARDIGAN - SHE   WAS GIVEN A STICKER WITH A SMILEY FACE). ANY ONE DEEMED WASTING ELECTRIC WAS GIVEN A STICKER WITH A SAD FACE. IT WAS    GREAT FUN AND WE WILL TRY TO CUT DOWN ALL THE TIME.

Pictures show our 'Walk Lent with Jesus' footprints calendar that run across the Hall and contain drawings of items pupils have either given  up for Lent or are doing for others.
The other photos are of our guests enjoying their Roast Beef.

Week Two - Gold

* To help us build on our School Foundations (our values) which are based on Love and Care we have invited 4 elderly people, who live on their own, to lunch.
* Lark Class have made the place names and will lay the tables.
* Ouse Class have written the invitations and will deliver them.
* Wissey Class to sit with those invited to lunch & 4 pupils serving at table.
* Our Worship Display was based on the house built on rock & the house built on sand. The Parents display board in the reception area     was of the house built on sand with reference to our School being built on strong foundations. One of our governors and the School Secretary    arranged the displays and the cardboard house was made by The Stoke Ferry Common Room - the youth club for 11 - 14 year olds.

Week One - Gold

LENT, SHROVE TUESDAY & ASH WEDNESDAY
* OUR SCHOOL LENT CALENDAR IS IN THE HALL AND IS ENTITLED 'WALKING LENT WITH JESUS'.
WE HAVE FOOTPRINTS RUNNING AROUND THE HALL WITH PICTURES CREATED BY PUPILS FROM ALL CLASSES  DEPICTING THINGS THEY HAVE GIVEN UP OR ARE DOING DURING LENT. A NEW FOOTPRINT IS ADDED ON EVERY DAY DURING LENT, EXCEPT SUNDAY.
* IN THE HALL WORSHIP AREA WE HAD A DISPLAY SHOWING WHAT LENT WAS ALL ABOUT, WHAT SHROVE TUESDAY MEANT AND IT'S RELATIONSHIP  TO PANCAKE DAY. WE ALSO HAD A DISPLAY OF WHAT ASH WEDNESDAY MEANT TO CHRISTIANS. ON THE WORSHIP TABLE WE HAD ALL THE INGREDIENTS TO MAKE PANCAKES, INCLUDING A FRYING PAN.
* ON WEDNESDAY SOME OF US WERE 'ASHED' AT OUR COLLECTIVE WORSHIP, INCLUDING OUR HEAD TEACHER AND ONE OF OUR GOVERNORS.
* IN THE RECEPTION AREA ON OUR PARENTS NOTICE BOARD, WE HAD PICTURES AND INFORMATION ABOUT LENT, SHROVE TUESDAY AND ASK WEDNESDAY.
